On Tuesday, I had the satisfaction of being part of a solution by doing nothing other than offering to help work out a problem. I had indicated to a committee that I was willing to give my time to help resolve a financial problem. Fine. A meeting would take place between me and the finance director. But, it never took place. Instead, he worked with people and organization who provide the accounting software and the auditors. After several tense meetings they resolved how the problem could be resolved and all of the back dating that I had offered to do would not be needed. I felt glad.
I cannot say whether my offer was a catalyst or whether things would have been worked out without my making an offer. But, I know from past experience that once someone offers to take on a task that you have not been able to tackle then that often opens the way to finding a solution.
